Ice climbing consists of climbing steep ice formations such as icefalls and frozen waterfalls, cliffs and slabs covered with ice refrozen by water. Originally one of the sub-disciplines of mountaineering, ice climbing has evolved into a discipline in itself. Equipped with rigid crampons and ice axes, climbers have discovered the world of the vertical ice.
In our course, you will learn ice climbing techniques; use of ice axes, body positioning, correct use of crampons, proper belaying, placement of ice screws, telling different qualities of ice apart, setting progression and running belay anchors, and proper rappelling.
Austria has some of the best ice climbing areas in the Alps. Gasteinertal (Gastein Valley), Rauriseertal (Raurisee Valley) in Salzburgerland and Ötztal in Tyrol are just some of them.
We hope to see you soon!
